Jen was amazing! She put us at ease straight away, by being so friendly and high energy. We had great craic throughout the session and have ended up with a far better routine than we ever could have hoped for, even including a lift! Loved the way it was broken down into stages and built upon in a personalised way to the couple. The online Tutorial provided is also excellent! We would love to continue dancing after the wedding after this experience! So so good, thanks Jen!

Absolutely brilliant teaching from Anthony, very good at explaining and demonstrating, and gives great advice. He had lots of enthusiasm and made us feel so comfortable.

Also love the online tutorial that we have access to in the lead up to the big day.

Highly recommend First Dance Academy! We were dreading our first dance as we’re both very uncoordinated and so signed up for the one-day workshop. First we received a fantastic online course that went through the basics with us ahead of time and then met Jen for our workshop. She put together a gorgeous routine on our favourite song for us which looked a lot harder than it was. I was amazed we managed it but she was so patient with us and we left feeling confident we could do it on the day. Jen is a gifted dance teacher. Thank you so much for giving us that moment to remember, we thoroughly enjoyed it!

Private Wedding Dance Lessons: What to Anticipate and How to Get Prepared

Your wedding day is an exceptional occasion, and you aim to ensure that every detail, including your inaugural dance as newlyweds, is flawless. In recent times, private wedding dance lessons have gained popularity for their ability to help couples craft a remarkable and unique dance that captures their love story. In this article, we will walk you through what you should expect when you opt for private dance lessons for your wedding, ensuring you are well-prepared to dazzle your wedding guests on the dance floor.

  1. Song and Music Selection:

The journey towards a perfect wedding dance commences with the selection of the appropriate song. Upon reaching out to us, our proficient instructors will assess the suitability of your chosen song. They will scrutinize factors such as the song's time signature, tempo, and style to guarantee that it aligns with your dance aspirations and skill level. Should any modifications be necessary, our experts will assist you in locating the perfect track that sets the tone for your dance.

  1. Draft Choreography:

Once your chosen song is deemed fitting, our experienced choreographers will commence crafting an initial choreography that complements the music. This choreography serves as a foundational blueprint that will be further refined with your valuable input during your lessons. It serves as the starting point for your dance journey, outlining the steps, movements, and transitions that will make your dance uniquely unforgettable.

  1. Pre-Lesson Preparation:

Before your scheduled private dance lessons with your choreographer, we will provide you with brief instructional videos to review. These videos are designed to acquaint you with fundamental dance steps and concepts, enhancing the productivity and enjoyment of your in-studio lessons. This preparatory step ensures that you arrive at your lesson fully prepared to make the most of your time.

  1. In-Studio Session:

First dance lessons Dublin.

The core of your wedding dance preparation unfolds during the in-studio lesson. This private session, which spans 2.5 hours, will be conducted with your dedicated choreographer at our Dublin studio. Here, you and your partner will be introduced to and practice the choreography step by step. Your choreographer will provide guidance and support, ensuring your comfort with each movement. This personalised attention allows for tailoring the dance to reflect your unique personalities and style.

Our private wedding dance lessons take place in Dublin city centre. We use several venues, depending on availability.

  1. Practice:

Post-in-studio lesson, consistent practice is the key to mastering your wedding dance. In the weeks that follow, we will grant you access to our online tutorial. This resource empowers you to revisit the choreography at your own pace, practice diligently, and ensure that you remember all the steps and intricacies you acquired during your in-studio lesson. Regular practice is essential for cultivating confidence and grace for your momentous day.

  1. Video Feedback:

We appreciate that refining your wedding dance may be an ongoing process, and at times, you may desire supplementary feedback and guidance. This is why we offer you the option to share videos of your practice sessions with us. Our instructors will provide constructive feedback, aiding you in fine-tuning your dance and elevating it to an even more spectacular level.

In short, private wedding dance lessons are the perfect approach to prepare for your first dance as a married couple. From scrutinising song suitability to designing a customised choreography and providing resources for practice, we are committed to guiding you throughout your journey. Your wedding dance should be a reflection of your love story, and with our proficient instructors and personalized approach, you can transform it into an awe-inspiring moment that you, your partner, and your guests will treasure for a lifetime. Prepare to shine on the dance floor and forge memories that will endure eternally.

Quick Tips for an Elegant Wedding Dance

Tip No 1: Keep your dance to under 3 minutes.

Choreographing a dance that's around 2.5 minutes is much more manageable than trying to fill a 5-minute song. But if the song you've chosen happens to be longer than 3 minutes (which is often the case), there are a couple of ways to handle it.

One option is to edit the music using a free tool like Audacity if you have a DJ. If you have a live band, you can simply let them know your preference.

Another great alternative, in our opinion, is to involve your wedding party in the dance at a specific time. It's easy to organize, provides a seamless transition to the next part of your wedding celebration, adds a fun element, and looks fantastic.

Tip No 2: Create a Detailed Plan.

Before delving into the dance itself, focus on the overall plan for your first dance:

Prior to your wedding day, it's crucial to coordinate the timing of your first dance and your entrance onto the dance floor.

Open lines of communication with your partner and all relevant parties, including musicians and wedding party members, to ensure everyone understands their roles and responsibilities.

Ensure the music starts at the right moment, whether it's before or after your entrance.

Have a plan in place for what comes after your first dance, especially if your wedding party is joining you. Make sure everyone is informed and prepared.

Consider designating a guest to oversee a smooth transition.

Perfecting these little details requires careful attention and thorough knowledge of your venue. When visiting your venue, pay close attention to the ballroom layout and guest placement to ensure your routine accommodates these factors.

Tip No 3: Maintain Good Posture and a Smile.

Maintaining proper posture and a cheerful demeanour while dancing is essential for leaving a positive impression, even though it might sound simple.

Your body language and facial expressions significantly impact your appearance on the dance floor.

Slouching or wearing a worried expression can detract from your dancing skills, regardless of your actual abilities.

However, standing tall and smiling radiates confidence and positivity, making you both look and feel great during your performance.

Tip No 4:  Elevate Your Skills with a Professional Wedding Dance Teacher.

If you're gearing up for your big day, consider the tremendous difference a dance lesson can make in your dance floor performance.

Even if you have no prior dance experience, spending a few hours with a professional choreographer can boost your confidence and comfort levels when taking centre stage at your wedding.

While the prospect of a dance lesson might seem daunting to some, it's a small investment to make your special day even more unforgettable.

Don't let the fear of performing in front of an audience hold you back. Instead, embrace this opportunity to acquire new skills and refine your dance moves.

In the end, taking a wedding dance lesson is a decision you won't regret. So go ahead, invest in your wedding day, and savour every moment of it!

Tip No 5: The Significance of Practice.

Once you've gained the necessary dance knowledge and skills, putting them into practice is essential.

Regular practice not only enhances your dance abilities but also boosts your self-confidence, making the learning process enjoyable.

The more you practice, the better you'll become, so ensure you allocate time for this crucial step in your dance journey.
